I'm reading
The first interesting reading I have had for school in a long time. It interests me a personal level in part because it is basically analyzing gender and sex. Both topics that have perplexed me since coming to terms with my own sexuality as a young man in a suburban society, that was anything but accepting. The reading brings to light the odd transition to an almost entirely tolerant metropolitan environment, which was more unaccessible to me than invisible to me at that young age. I was so envious that such a place as New York City existed at that age. And to think that now I am keen on the idea of returning to the less tolerant constituencies that I had once identified with, is odd, to say the least. But I am at least comforted in the idea that, despite a decrease in the openness to sexual orientation found here, there will be an increase in cooperative, down-to-earth type individuals that will strike me as much more engaging than the lackluster, manufactured teens here. Just a thought. My disillusionment is certain to occur when going back to Richmond, Va for school, what is only latent will appear evident through the duress of yet another transitional period for me.
